Glaucoma Laser Surgery

Glaucoma is an eye disease that is a leading cause of blindness in the United States.  Because it usually affects the peripheral (side) vision first and is usually painless, it often goes undetected.  Once diagnosed, there are three types of treatment to lower the pressure inside the eye.  Eye drops, laser surgery and conventional surgery all have one goal in common ... to lower the pressure inside the eye.  Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) uses a laser to increase outflow of fluid inside the eye thus reducing the pressure.  The National Eye Institute provides additional information in this link.
